GPL-800
Automated protective film application for touch screens, displays, and precision glass panels.
The GPL-800 Glass Laminator applies protective film to glass panels with the precision and speed demanded by high-volume manufacturing. Engineered for seamless inline integration, the system synchronizes automatically with upstream equipment, such as washing machines, via built-in encoders. Featuring automated gap control, a rapid cross-cutting unit, and a recipe-controlled HMI, the GPL-800 ensures clean, repeatable lamination with a throughput of up to 400 plates per hour.
ADVANCED THREE-STAGE PROCESSING
The GPL-800 is engineered to operate as a seamless, high-speed component within your glass production line. By utilizing an external encoder wheel positioned on the pre-sorting conveyor, the laminator’s infeed speed synchronizes 1:1 with upstream cleaning equipment (such as washing machines). This ensures stress-free material transfer, zero-slip tracking, and consistent lamination quality without requiring manual throughput adjustments.
Equipped with dual-sided, driven non-silicone lamination rollers and an integrated automation loop, the system manages the entire lamination and cutting process with micron-level predictability.
ADVANCED THREE-STAGE PROCESSING
AUTOMATED INFEED SYNCHRONIZATION
The infeed conveyor utilizes an integrated encoder wheel to match the speed of preceding equipment perfectly. This automated system manages ensures ideal spacing between incoming glass panels no matter what happens upstream.
DUAL TENSION-FREE LAMINATION
Dual low-tension servo unwind axles feed the protective film smoothly into the nip. Driven laminating rollers apply uniform pressure (up to 5 N/mm) without using silicone, preventing glass contamination.
HIGH-SPEED GAP CUTTING
The automated plate detection system tracks the exact front and back of each panel. Once the predetermined gap between plates is achieved, the integrated cross-cutting unit clamps and cleanly cuts the film within a rapid cycle.

Where the GPL-800 earns its place
Touch screens & display panels
For electronics manufacturers applying transport-protection or process-protection foil to touch screen panels, OLED displays, control displays, and consumer electronics glass. The GPL-800 handles each panel with the exact surface care that high-end electronics manufacturing demands. It integrates seamlessly with upstream cleaning equipment via an external speed-matching encoder wheel. It includes an inline printer head for automated sequential serial numbering and batch identification directly on the protective film.
Dashboard & instrument displays
For automotive interior suppliers protecting dashboard displays, instrument clusters, infotainment screens, and other automotive glass components during downstream assembly, handling, and shipment. The GPL-800 manages glass substrates with consistent, repeatable foil application across complex shapes, including pre-cut profiles and bezels. Designed for continuous inline operation, its automated gap-control and quick-response cross-cutter allow the line to process up to 400 plates per hour without risk of slowing down the line.
Precision glass & optical components
For specialized glass processors applying protective foil to small-to-medium sized glass sheets, high-end mirrors, optical glass, and precision substrates where absolute surface integrity matters. The driven, non-silicone lamination rollers apply adjustable pressure from 0 to 5 N/mm, without any risk of contamination on the glass. Single-sided or simultaneous double-sided foil application can be configured dynamically through the recipe-driven HMI based on your exact product profile.

When to choose the GPL-800
- Your manufacturing flow requires a laminator that integrates directly with upstream washing and inspection equipment without causing bottlenecks.
- You operate in cleanroom or high-spec environments (Electronics/Automotive) where silicone rollers are strictly forbidden, requiring alternative lamination technology.
- You need a system that uses an external encoder wheel to run perfectly 1:1 with preceding conveyor lines, handling varying line speeds automatically.
- Your process calls for applying protective foil to either the top, bottom, or both sides of a glass panel simultaneously in a single pass.
- You require automated batch marking and sequential serial numbering directly onto the film surface during the active production cycle.
- You need a reliable system capable of processing up to 400 plates per hour (based on 600mm panel length) with automated gap-cutting sequences.
- You operate within the stringent quality ecosystems of electronics, automotive Tier-1, or premium optical glass manufacturing, where repeatable processstandards and high yield rates are mandatory.
- Your product portfolio relies on the precise stabilization and damage-free lamination of sensitive touch screens, specialized digital displays, or low-thickness small-to-medium sized glass panels.
Frequently asked questions
A glass panel laminator is an industrial machine designed to automatically apply a uniform layer of protective film (typically polyolefin) onto flat glass substrates. Systems like the Crest GPL-800 protect sensitive surfaces, such as touch screens and display assemblies, from scratches, chemical damage, and contamination during downstream handling, transport, and manufacturing processes.
The Crest GPL-800 is specifically engineered to handle precision glass substrates within the following technical constraints:
Thickness: 1mm to 6mm
Width: 100mm to 700mm
Length: 200mm to 900mm
It seamlessly handles standard, heavy, light, and custom-profiled panels within these dimensional ranges but the laminator can be fully customized for your materials as well.
The GPL-800 is built for seamless inline operation. It utilizes an external encoder wheel positioned on the preceding conveyor line to measure throughput speed. This allows the laminator’s infeed belt to run perfectly synchronous (1:1) with upstream equipment like industrial glass washing machines. Additionally, an integrated traffic-light signaling system coordinates panel loading to maintain the ideal gap distance required for high-speed cutting.
Yes. The machine can be equipped with an integrated printing system. The printer features its own encoder and computer loop, allowing it to mark the film during the active process. It supports up to an 12-digit layout (XX XXXX XXXXXX) containing quality control status signals, a 4-digit batch number, and a 6-digit sequential serial number for full component traceability.
Yes. The machine architecture features a dual winding position equipped with two automated, tension-adjustable servo unwind axles (top and bottom). This allows the system to apply protective polyolefin or acrylic-based adhesive films to either a single side or both sides of the glass panel simultaneously in a single, continuous pass.
To meet the strict quality standards of the electronics and automotive display sectors, the use of silicone is entirely forbidden in the GPL-800. Instead, the system features driven, high-grip Polyurethane or EPDM rollers. These apply a highly consistent, adjustable lamination pressure ranging from 0 to 5N/mm without any risk of chemical surface contamination.
Yes, the Crest GPL-800 features a highly modular architectural design tailored for seamless industrial integration. Based on your exact production layout and traceability requirements, the machine can be customized with various upstream and downstream options.
This includes choosing between standard or multi-belt conveyor systems for optimized plate pick-up, adjusting the process line height, to direct PLC-to-printer network communication for custom, dynamic batch numbers). Furthermore, lamination rollers can be configured with specialized coatings depending on your specific substrate sensitivity.
A 5-year warranty applies, provided a service agreement is in place. Crest’s service organization supports the installed base directly from the Netherlands.
