On-the-fly cutting (often called fly cutting) utilizes a traversing cross-cutter that moves forward in perfect sync with the speed of your production line during the cutting cycle. Unlike conventional cutting systems that require the material to momentarily pause, a fly cutter separates sheets while the line remains in continuous motion. This eliminates material backpressure, avoids throughput loss, and prevents deformation of delicate materials like polyurethane foam.

What materials can the LFC-1700 process?

The Crest LFC-1700 is designed for a highly diverse mix of flexible cores and rigid substrates up to a maximum product width of 1700 mm. It cleanly processes polyurethane (PU) foam and other flexible foam substrates on rolls (10–30 mm thick) or loose sheets (10–150 mm thick), as well as wood sheets, MDF, sandwich structures, and composite panels. For surface finishes, it applies technical scrims, non-woven cloths, hotmelt coatings, thermal lamination films, and cold pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) films.

How does the non-stop production work?

Non-stop production is achieved by integrating automated material synchronization across the entire system. From the high-grip, dual-driven lamination rollers to the 100% driven infeed table, the line coordinates speed seamlessly. Because the embedded fly cutter travels alongside the advancing material to perform the cross-cut exactly within the pre-configured product gap, there are zero start-stop cycles and no operator interventions needed between sheets.
