Pattern depth on demand. Run after run.

Conventional embossing systems struggle with consistency. Manual pressure settings drift over time, process temperatures shift, and frequent recipe changes result in lost production time and material waste.

The R2R Embosser 1200 eliminates these variables with an engineered, coordinated approach designed specifically for high-capacity PE film and packaging production.

THE RESULT: ABSOLUTE REPEATABILITY AND CONSTANT WEB TENSION FROM THE FIRST METER TO THE LAST.

PNEUMATIC NIP PRESSURE

High-precision embossing pressure enforced by heavy-duty pneumatic lift cylinders (over 40 N/mm of pressure). Monitored continuously via the HMI to eliminate manual operator variation and prevent mechanical drift during long production shifts.

ACTIVE COOLING & CONTROLLED HEATING

Three internally heated rolls prepare the film perfectly, while a dedicated external water-chilling unit cools the embossing set and three secondary cooling rolls. This rapid thermal shift instantly freezes the structure, preventing material spring-back.

STORED RECIPES PER PRODUCT

Save and recall all critical process parameters, including line speed, temperature setpoints, and winding torque, directly via the Simatic HMI touchscreen. Achieve faster changeovers, minimal setup times, and total batch-to-batch consistency.

Built for film production reality

The Crest R2R Embosser 1200 is engineered for film producers
who cannot afford pattern variation. Continuous, heavy-duty
production is driven by a robust motor-driven winding system and
a coordinated brake-unwinding setup. Together with an integrated
laser diameter-measurement system, the machine maintains a
perfectly constant, adjustable web tension and an exact line speed.

The pneumatically enforced nip, featuring heavy-duty lift cylinders
and a rubberized counter-roller, completely eliminates manual setting
drift. To lock in the microstructure instantly, high-capacity water cooling
continuously feeds the engraving roll and three secondary aluminum
cooling rolls via an external chiller unit.

Designed for operational efficiency, both the unwinding and rewinding
positions feature pneumatically activated expansion shafts and
specialized tilt bearings (safety chucks) for rapid, seamless roll
changeovers. A static discharge brush ensures a clean, safe, and
controlled output before final rewinding.

Available as a stand-alone processing unit or fully prepared for
seamless mechanical and electrical integration into existing
extrusion, lamination, or downstream winding lines.

Best suited for

  • High-Volume Packaging: Film producers running structured, functional, or vacuum-sealed films.
  • High-Fidelity Aesthetics: Decorative film manufacturers requiring crisp, repeatable wood grain, stone, or geometric textures.
  • Technical & Smart Films: Producers of advanced micro-structured surfaces where pattern depth consistency is a critical quality KPI.
  • Line Integration: Extruders looking to integrate a rugged, heavy-capacity embossing module directly into their production line.
  • Inline Branding: Operations requiring precise, repeatable logo embossing or product branding on continuous plastic substrates.

Where the Web Embosser earns its place.

Packaging films & vacuum-sealed bags

For packaging converters, pattern consistency is a strict functional requirement, not an aesthetic choice. Vacuum-sealed bags, breathable packaging, and barrier films rely on a precise structural depth across the entire web width.

The Crest R2R Embosser 1200 guarantees this cross-web uniformity at full production speeds. By utilizing integrated laser diameter-measurement sensors on both the unwinding and rewinding stations, the system maintains an identical, automated web tension. This prevents material stretching and ensures high-speed recipe switching between different SKU variants without film waste.

Decorative films & surface textures

In the decorative film market, micro-texture depth directly translates to perceived premium quality. Whether processing wood grain, stone, or technical surface textures for furniture and interior design, any thermal or pressure drift will ruin the tactile effect.

The machine ensures a stable process window through its three heating rolls and a heavy-duty pneumatic nip pressure. Supported by a rubberized counter-roller, it locks in micro-fine textures flawlessly from the first meter of the core to the very end of up to 500kg rolls.

Smart & nano-structured films

Next-generation functional and smart films demand extreme mechanical precision and strict data monitoring. The R2R Embosser 1200 provides the ultimate process stability required for these sensitive multi-layer applications.

Through the custom-configured Simatic HMI control panel, operators can monitor critical safety states, fine-tune the pneumatic lift-cylinder pressure, and audit winding torque percentages in real-time. This high level of digital oversight ensures a completely stable web-handling platform that easily adapts to advanced technical film specifications.

Frequently asked questions

What is roll-to-roll (R2R) web embossing?

Roll-to-roll web embossing is a continuous industrial process where a flexible substrate, such as plastic film, is unwound from a roll, conditioned thermally, and passed through a pressurized roller nip to permanently press a precise micro-texture or functional pattern into the material before it is rewound. The Crest R2R Embosser 1200 utilizes a heated step followed immediately by high-capacity water cooling to instantly freeze the prismatic structure into films, preventing the polymer from springing back to its original flat state.

What types of films can the Crest R2R Embosser 1200 process?

The system is highly optimized for Polyethylene (PE) films with a typical material thickness ranging from 0.050mm to 0.150mm and a maximum web width of 1200mm. It is ideal for converting materials used in vacuum-sealed food packaging, breathable films, functional barrier plastics, and high-fidelity decorative substrates requiring precise surface topography. Changing thermal specifications, embossing pressure and roller material and hardness however, makes it suited for all kinds of films.

How does the machine deliver consistent pattern depth without drift?

Consistency is achieved through a coordinated mechanical and thermal engineering approach. The machine eliminates manual setting drift by enforcing an exact pneumatic nip pressure (over 40N/mm of pressure) between the embossing roller and a robust rubberized counter-roller. Simultaneously, laser-guided diameter-measurement sensors on both the unwinding and rewinding stations dynamically regulate the brake and motor torque to maintain a perfectly constant web tension across the entire roll.

Can the R2R Embosser 1200 be integrated into existing production lines?

Yes. While the Crest R2R Embosser 1200 can operate as a high-efficiency stand-alone converting unit, it is fully engineered and prepared for seamless mechanical and electrical integration into existing industrial lines, such as inline extrusion, lamination, or downstream high-capacity winding setups.

Can the machine apply company logos or custom branding to the film?

Yes. Because the system features a precise, interchangeable heavy-duty steel roller base coated with a custom-engraved copper layer, it can be customized with specific micro-structures, repeating geometric patterns, or functional inline branding logos according to your exact product specifications.

What customization options are available for this embossing platform?

Crest Dutch Machinery B.V. configures each system to fit specific industrial realities. Beyond stand-alone or inline configurations, options can be tailored during specification regarding custom engraving designs, specialized temperature configurations via internal (and external) heating elements, and dedicated water-chilling capacities to match non-standard substrate requirements.

What warranty does Crest offer on the Web Embosser?

A 5-year warranty applies, provided biannual maintenance is performed by Crest. Crest’s service organization supports the installed base directly from the Netherlands.
