EVO-1700 Laminator Slitter

Laminate, slit and rewind foam in one single pass. Jumbo roll to jumbo roll, run by one operator.

The Crest EVO-1700 unwinds jumbo rolls of foam, laminates films and adhesives hot or cold, slits the laminate to the required width and rewinds it into perfect jumbo rolls. One compact roll-to-roll line replaces a sequence of separate machines and handling steps. Two lamination stations, a 12 kW shortwave IR heating unit and pneumatic crush-cut knives work in one continuous pass, while the four-position film carousel with integrated lift makes product changeovers fast, safe and ergonomic.

Where do you need it for?

01 / TECHNICAL FOAM

LAMINATED FOAM, SLIT TO CUSTOMER WIDTH

For converters running jumbo rolls of technical foam who need film or adhesive applied and the laminate slit to exact customer widths. Foam from 0.5 to 120 mm is handled on the same platform, with dancer-controlled tension that keeps compressible material stable without crushing it.

02 / HOTMELT LAMINATION

HEATED ROLLER AND 12 KW IR UNIT

For production that relies on hotmelt adhesives and thermal bonding. The top roller of lamination unit 1 heats up to 135 °C, backed by a 12 kW shortwave infrared unit at the first top roller, dimmable from 0 to 100 percent through the HMI. Cold pressure-sensitive lamination runs on the same line.

03 / HIGH-MIX PRODUCTION

FAST, SAFE PRODUCT CHANGEOVERS

For operations that switch film and product frequently. The four-position film carousel holds three extra Autogrip shafts, and the chain hoist on rail lifts jumbo rolls up to 250 kg to a height of 3 m. Recipe programs in the Smart PLC recall the settings for each product.

Three operations. One pass. One operator.

Most foam converting lines split laminating, slitting and rewinding across separate machines, with intermediate storage and handling between each step. The EVO-1700 combines all three in a single continuous pass. Less handling, less intermediate stock, less material damage, and a line that one operator can run from a single HMI touch screen.

Built for continuous foam converting

The EVO-1700 is engineered as a complete roll-to-roll line, not as a laminator with add-ons. Unwind, two lamination stations, slitting and rewind are matched to each other and driven as one system.

Lamination unit 1 runs top and bottom rollers separately driven, with electric NIP adjustment and height and pressure read-out. Lamination unit 2 is friction-coupled at approximately 105 percent of unit 1, which keeps the laminate under controlled tension through the second nip. Both units use ø150 mm silicone rubber rollers at 60° Shore and open up to 120 mm.

Web tension is dancer-controlled from 10 to 200 N across the entire line. The unwind has an electrically operated friction brake, sideshift of ±100 mm and a web alignment pin, so the web stays where it should from the first metre.

Best suited for

  • Converters processing jumbo rolls of foam up to ø1200 mm and 150 kg.
  • Foam thicknesses from 0.5 to 120 mm laminated across a working width up to 1680 mm.
  • Hotmelt applications requiring a heated top roller and shortwave IR pre-heating.
  • Cold lamination with pressure-sensitive films and adhesives from 0.05 to 0.5 mm.
  • Production that needs the laminate slit to width in the same pass, up to 11 knives.
  • High-mix operations where film changeovers happen several times per shift.
  • Plants that want one operator running a complete line instead of three separate machines.

When to choose the EVO-1700

  • You laminate and slit foam and currently need two or three machines to do it: the EVO-1700 does laminating, slitting and rewinding in one continuous pass.
  • You process thick, compressible foam: foam from 0.5 to 120 mm is handled with dancer-controlled tension and a NIP that opens to 120 mm.
  • Your process depends on hotmelt: a top roller heated to 135 °C plus a 12 kW shortwave IR unit, dimmable through the HMI.
  • You change films several times per shift: the four-position carousel with three extra shafts and a 250 kg chain hoist keeps changeovers fast and safe.
  • You want to reduce handling damage: fewer transfers between machines means less handling of delicate laminated foam.
  • You need slitting flexibility: five crush-cut knives as standard, extendable up to eleven, with ±50 mm lateral fine adjustment by handwheel.
  • You run repeat products: the Smart PLC stores recipe programs, so proven settings are recalled instead of dialled in again.

Where the EVO-1700 earns its place.

Technical foam converting

For converters running jumbo rolls of technical foam. The EVO-1700 unwinds, laminates, slits and rewinds in one pass, with dancer-controlled tension from 10 to 200 N that keeps compressible foam stable and dimensionally correct through both lamination nips and the slitting unit.

Hotmelt and adhesive lamination

For production that depends on hotmelt adhesives and thermal bonding. The top roller of lamination unit 1 is heated up to 135 °C and supported by a 12 kW shortwave IR unit at the first top roller, adjustable in position and dimmable from 0 to 100 percent through the HMI.

Fast changeovers in high-mix production

For operations that switch film and product several times per shift. The four-position film carousel includes three extra Crest Autogrip shafts and a chain hoist on rail lifts rolls up to 250 kg, while the Smart PLC recalls the recipe for each product.

Frequently asked questions

What does the EVO-1700 do in one pass?

The EVO-1700 is a complete roll-to-roll line. Jumbo rolls of foam are unwound with dancer-controlled tension, laminated in two lamination stations, slit to width by pneumatic crush-cut knives and rewound into jumbo rolls, all in one continuous pass. That replaces the sequence of separate machines and intermediate handling steps normally needed for laminated, slit foam.

What materials and dimensions can the EVO-1700 process?

Foam on rolls up to 1680 mm wide and 0.5 to 120 mm thick, on jumbo rolls up to ø1200 mm and 150 kg. Films and adhesives up to 1680 mm wide and 0.05 to 0.5 mm thick, on rolls up to ø300 mm and 80 kg. All rolls run on a ø76.2 mm (3 inch) core. The finished product is laminated foam, slit to width and rewound on a 3 inch core up to ø1200 mm and 150 kg, at a maximum lamination speed of 15 m/min.

Can the EVO-1700 laminate hot and cold?

Yes. The top roller of lamination unit 1 is heated up to 135 °C and is supported by a 12 kW shortwave infrared unit positioned at the first top roller, adjustable in position and dimmable from 0 to 100 percent through the HMI. That covers hotmelt and thermal applications. Cold lamination with pressure-sensitive films and adhesives runs on the same line without conversion.

How does the slitting unit work?

The laminate is slit by pneumatic crush-cut knives. Five knives are fitted as standard and the unit is extendable up to eleven. Maximum slitting thickness is 20 mm and the maximum pass opening is 120 mm. Lateral fine adjustment of ±50 mm is done by handwheel, so knife positions can be set precisely to the required finished widths.

How are film changeovers handled?

The film carousel has four positions and includes three extra Crest Autogrip shafts, rotated manually by a side handle. A chain hoist on rail lifts rolls with a maximum load of 250 kg including the hoist, to a lifting height of 3 m at 8 and 2 m/min. This makes product changes fast, safe and ergonomic, without a second operator or a forklift at the machine.

What warranty does Crest offer on the EVO-1700?

A 5-year warranty applies, provided a service agreement is in place. Crest service organization supports the installed base directly from the Netherlands.
